The Mécanique du Père sits on the side of a valley in the foothills of the Montagne Noire in the Languedoc.
It was once a cloth mill on the edge of a river, surrounded by sloping pasture with a narrow watercourse turning a wheel. That pasture is now an oak forest with a wooden house. The mill itself has long since disappeared, leaving an old stone building with timber cladding and the remains of the ground floor of what was once the main building. This is now a natual pool or bassin into which the watercourse pours.
It is also a potting shed, garden and, bit by bit, our home.
